MOCAfest Alumni Spotlight: Melisa Le Rue

Melisa Le Rue is a British-Filipino songstress with an eclectic, refreshing and raw sound. Culturally inspired by her multi-national family, Melisa fuses everything from jazz, world, folk, indie, pop, electronica and soul, to create uplifting music with a global appeal.

This London born, West Midlands raised, Dubai based singer-songwriter launched her debut EP in New York at the legendary Joe’s Pub through Micheck Entertainment in July 2014. Her first debut single on the EP ‘Unite’ features Grammy award winning group The Soweto Gospel Choir and was recorded in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Performing both as a solo artist, and with acts such as Yarah Bravo and the Latin Dub Sound System, Le Rue’s impressive list of appearances and performances include FOX TV, Formula 1 Grand Prix, TimeOut Nightlife Awards, Lovebox (UK), Notting Hill Arts Club (UK), Waterford festival (Ireland), Glastonbury festival (UK) and Joe’s Pub New York. Le Rue has also been featured in publications such as Timeout Dubai, Emirates Woman, Infusion magazine and What’s On.

In addition to music Melisa Le Rue, an LSE Sociology graduate, is a passionate advocate for positive change, particularly in the areas of; non violence, conservation, green energy, holistic health, race, gender, and education.

In September 2014 Le Rue’s first single Unite featuring Grammy award winning group The Soweto Gospel Choir; was selected as ‘Track of the week’ on the BBC Introducing platform for BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester in the UK.

She is currently promoting her EP, completing an album for electronic fusion project Metamorphiq, and completing her debut album for release in 2015.
